Who am I and why the heck am I here?
My name is Ana Isabel Feliciano-Alvarez. Yes, I know that is a long-ass name but I say it proudly. My name says a lot about who I am and what drives me:
Ana - my paternal grandmother
My abuela Ana had twelve children. TWELVE! Not only did she give birth to twelve children but she also endured one of the greatest of pains and that was having to bury 3 of them. As a parent, you expect to die first. Your children are not supposed to pass before you do. That's just not how any of this is supposed to work! She was a strong and proud woman who had the heartiest of laughs. She passed away December 23rd. The worst Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) we ever experienced. I am proud to carry her name!
Isabel - my maternal grandmother
My abuelita Isabel (Chabela) was a single mother to three children. She made the best tortillas and had the softest voice and hands EVER! She raised three women and did everything possible for them. She grew up in the humblest of ways but she had more class than some of the wealthiest people I know. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her in some way. I know she had a hand in helping my husband and I buy our first home and in helping us get pregnant. How I wish she was around to meet my son.
Feliciano - my amazing maiden name. It literally means "a happy person"
Ummm, I don't think there is much explanation needed her. If you personally know me, then you know I am a genuinely happy person! How awesome is that?!?!
Alvarez - my married last name
It is my husband and son's last name. In addition to my already large and crazy family, I get to join a new family. This family is tight and full of mad love for each other.
And here comes the confidence part:
I am an only child, so my parents would pretty much throw a party for any of my accomplishments. I never really knew what it felt like to not be praised. Am I lucky, HECK YES! Extremely blessed with the most loving parents on the planet. What they also did, without realizing it, was to help me discover that there was nothing I couldn't do. Nothing I couldn't achieve. I was my only competition. They taught me self-love. No, I am not delusional and think I am perfect. No one is perfect. There are MANY things I can improve upon. I choose to focus on the positive and build those things up. Those are the traits that will help me with relationships, my career, etc.
